Palm developing a new Linux PalmOS from scratch?

Palm developing a new Linux PalmOS from scratch?: "
So Jimmie Geddes over at Gadgets on the Go claims to have it on authority that Palm itself may be planning the 'true' successor to the PalmOS, Access be damned. A little backgrounder for those who've drifted: after PalmOne bought the Palm name and PalmSource sold to Access, the PalmOS was renamed to ALP (Access Linux Platform), and we've been expecting it to primarily take hold in the Asian market, while PalmOS 5 (Garnet) ages ungracefully and eventually withers away in the US. So the idea that Palm would double back and resurrect the PalmOS with a new Linux-based version is by no means out of the question -- in fact, it's something we predicted might happen last year. And according to Gadgets, their Palm insider says they have a prototype of the new Linux OS on a Treo 650, and that the 'new operating system will be introduced in 2007.' As much as we'd like to believe Palm would pull a rabbit out of their hat with this one and give us the completely rebuilt, completely redesigned PalmOS to end all PalmOSs, we have to keep in mind that it takes years to build a robust smartphone operating system, and even if they started last year immediately after buying the Palm name, 2007 still seems like an incredibly aggressive launch date.

Dallab launches a familiar looking DX8 Pocket PC phone

Dallab launches a familiar looking DX8 Pocket PC phone: After receiving the prestigious “First local brand PDA phone” award from The Malaysia Book of Records for their DP900 Pocket PC phone, Dallab is releasing the good looking DX8 as a follow up. This time they're going for a slightly more prestigious record, 'World's smallest Pocket PC phone,' and they almost manage to succeed. The unit is fairly small, but so is its identical twin, AXIA's A308. All the specs are the same as well, including the 2.2-inch QVGA touch screen LCD, EDGE data, 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, and miniSD slot. In fact, it's really hard to see what, if anything, Dallab does differently with their version of this obviously OEMed handset. Oh well, better luck next time.[Via Pocket PC Thoughts]

Delphi MyFi xm2go Satellite Receiver

Delphi MyFi xm2go Satellite Receiver: "
Think of the MyFi as the Sony Walkman of satellite radio. The Delphi MyFi xm2go is a 7 ounce satellite radio receiver and recorder that will work at the beach, at the gym, in your car, or anywhere else you can dream up. At 4.5 inch high by 2.8 inch wide by 1.3' deep the MyFi is about the size of a large portable music player. The unit itself is a model of simplicity; 15 buttons, a 2.2' monochrome display, a headphone jack and a docking connector."

Dual Core DAP: TCLAST C150

Dual Core DAP: TCLAST C150: "Chinese company TCLAST claims its C150 is the first digital media player with a dual core chip inside. The company says the processor is specially modified to jack the signal-to-noise ratio up to 100dB. The player has just 512MB onboard, hardly enough to store a whole lot of its MPEG-1 video, and it also has an FM tuner and in-line recording. No pricing or availability was announced. We're just not sure how much that 100dB s-to-n ratio is going to help highly-compressed MP3 files.

Nokia E62 Details Revealed

Nokia E62 Details Revealed: " Just last week we told you about how the FCC had finally approved Nokia's E61, a.k.a. The Blackberry/Treo Killer, for sale to the US market. If you've already put it on your list of must-buy gadgets, you'll have to make a correction as Nokia has renamed it the E62 and tweaked a few things. If it's not on your list yet, perhaps this partial list of specs will prod you: runs on Symbian 9.1 and S60 3.0 both GPRS and EDGE for data GSM bands 850/1900 Bluetooth 1.2 screen is 240x320, 256,000 colors, TFT miniUSB instead of Nokia's usual PopPort Push email (like the Blackberry) USB Mass Storage Mode, so you can mount your phone as a hard drive QuickOffice for viewing/editing Word/Excel/Powerpoint Screen Export feature lets you run Powerpoint presentations off the E62 with compatible projectorsPositioning and Navigation apps that work with Bluetooth GPS devices Lots of other nice features but sadly the E62 is missing the E61's support for 3G and WiFi. Anyone know why that is? Did Nokia cut an exclusive deal with a provider that made them take it out? 3G/WiFi-less aside, it's still a solid business phone with a great UI and should still do well when it launches.

i-mate's PDA-N Windows Mobile Pocket PC with GPS

The HTC Galaxy wasn't ever much of a looker, and i-mate's branding and color scheme for their new PDA-N isn't helping much, but all the Windows Mobile 5.0 and GPS goodness is still here, along with the WiFi, Bluetooth 1.1 and 300MHz processor. Unfortunately mapping software isn't included, so you'll have to bring your own in order to fully enjoy the GPS capability, but otherwise the Pocket PC is all set to join the recently added i-mate JAMin in the current i-mate crop of Windows Mobile devices.
